The Place Her Hand Had Rested

the breeze
enters
stage left
tempering the tightness
of the good bye scene
opening the options
freeing the forgiveness
releasing the struggle
blown away is the pain

the breeze plays on her face
it wanders and winds through his
memories
clearing the clutter
making a new way
turning, he smiles, hand on his heart
she nods her head, gently
blowing him a sweet kiss
her hand then rests at her heart
as well

setting the sextant
on the horizon
readying the crew
he sails away
she watches till the ship
fades from view
as the sun settles into its slumber
she knows the stars will guide him
he is safe at sea

A sullen sadness returns to the place her hand had rested
briefly, she feels his hand there
just then, the breeze returns
the heroic companion come to save her...
to accompany her home
and, once again
blown away is the pain
