My Heart's Poem

A man loves a woman
a woman loves a man
Beginning a life together
It's part of the plan

They dream and build
They love, allowing creation
They work and birth
They evolve...in elation

The years flow by
The kids grow strong
The bills get paid
The days are long

With the passing years
comes the passing by
One hears the wind's whisper
One stands still, no longer trying

One moves ahead
Moving away from the home
Tired of waiting for the other
Beginning to evolve...alone

One blends and becomes the change
The seasons now coming with haste
One is stalled and sullen
Halted, slowing the pace

The heart of the evolving one pens this poem knowing the changes impending:

Two trees live side by side for many years
One honors the season's turn with ease
The other holding on to deeply rooted fears
unwilling to let go and drop its leaves

Neither is right, neither wrong
The time has come, the turner moves on
Allowing the one who fears the change
to take their time to rearrange

The turner finds the mate who turns in reflection
Knowing they are turning in a similar direction
The one who feared the season's arrival
Also finds the one there for their revival

In life, we shed timeworn love as trees shed their leaves
We release the grasp where once we cleaved
As new love enters, ending the pattern of growing apart
Allowing the true intertwined rooting of two lonely hearts
