As a Mirage

Rising in the
ribbons
of heat off the
endless wandering waves
of sand.....
shifting
Deep in the
desert
of our desperate
hours
Life here now is
as a
mirage

The truth strewn in front
of us as seductive
lies
Misty and occluded
realities
The hope of an oasis
to quench the
thirst
of the masses.... also
starving

The ones dying in the
streets....
all because we did not
feed them
Moved into the mirage
in their minds
forever....
a final escape

As the ribbons of steamy
heat rise off their
rotting bodies
in an alley somewhere
Free, dead now
No more lovely sand
to occlude
the  terrible ugly
truth

A life lived in paradise...
starving
Life....as a mirage seducing them
An elusive oasis
Always just out of their
grasp
The life of the dry desert
of a human
thrown
aside
Praying for enough strength
to just die

The power of our country
is only a misaligned
mirage
Designed to lure us in
Hopes of a job
A home
A hand held open
A chance

How much power is
there in ignoring
your own?
