Broken Ladies

They came in the BLACK
of my night
My compass off, they helped
set it right

They spewed ugly, deep pain
in technicolor purging
Sending the message to my heart to
allow my urgings

She showed me white, the holes in
her socks thread bare
Without speaking she told me
"relentless running will get you one thing...
feet raw and red with wear"

After they taught me I
released the gray
I had carried for so long, making clear
the blue of day

I saw again the dark night set
deep in indigo
As a canvass for the
many stars aglow

They shared their colors
dingy and bright
And I reconnected to the full
spectrum of my light

These broken ladies I honor
here and now
For in their mending they also
showed me how
to
mend
